Cerebrolysin® reduces hospital stay in TBI patients

On the 20th of March is World Head Injury Awareness Day. This day is about the number of people suffering from a mild bump on their head to a severe brain injury.

The purpose of this day is to remind on how accidents and brain injuries could be reduced if we are mindful. But very often this is not possible.

  • About 70 million people worldwide suffered from traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year.
  • Fall injuries are the predominant cause of TBI worldwide; road traffic accidents comprise the majority of TBI in most Low and Middle Income Countries.
  • TBI is also a leading cause of disability andconfers a significant burden on the patients and their family members.
  • The mortality rate is more than 50% among patients suffering from severe TBI.

THEREFORE, A PROPER MANAGEMENT OF SEVERE TBI PATIENTS IS CRUCIAL FOR A BETTER PROGNOSIS

This recently published study from L. Lucena and M. Briones shows:

  • 50% of severe TBI patients treated with Cerebrolysin® improving to mild or moderate TBI already at day 14!
  • Functional and neurological outcomes favours Cerebrolysin® treatment!
  • Cerebrolysin® reduces the Length of Hospital Stay (LOS) by more than 6 days!

The observation of a shorter length of hospital stay in the Cerebrolysin® group clearly supports the idea of faster recovery rates, measured by GCS and GOS.

The high economic costs, associated with long-term care, could be reduced by shorter length of hospital stay.
